Eating 'crow' (0/2 today)
Two envelopes today and I struck out with both of them.
Sheryl Crow - Sent: 1/31/05 Received: 5/26/06. I thought I might have had a winner with this one, but instead I received a form letter with an unsigned picture saying she was too busy to sign. I guess the good news with this is first of all my letter was acknowledged and secondly they didn't have someone sign for her. I guess when she does sign it is authentic. I will wait awhile and try again later when hopefully she isn't as busy.
I like the photo but would have liked it better signed.
Ed Harris - Sent: 5/16/06 Received: 5/26/06. I stumbled across an address that I thought could have worked for Ed Harris but unfortunately I got a RTS on it.

That's honest of her though. A lot of celebrities will just send you a fake and hope you don't know the difference - or worse yet just don't care. I'd rather get a form letter explaining that a person can't sign than some forgery that they supposedly did. The Leno one is very cool. I got one from him as well - a caricature drawing of him I did no less - and from everything I can tell it is authentic. I had to wait for it for months but it passes the smell test. Honestly though, I don't trust any autograph that comes back too quickly unless it's from someone on the local level, like a local TV news anchor. But even then it's a stretch. Anybody worth getting an autograph from is going to be very busy, so if it comes back right away I just assume that is fake. Most real celebrities don't have the time it take to do a quick, authentic turn around.
Thank you for visiting my blog & taking the time to leave a comment. I agree that I'd rather have a note explaining she was too busy to sign than a fake anyday. No hard feelings at all.
I do disagree with your time theory though. It's all about the timing of your letter reaching them. As a matter of fact I think the longer it takes on a via venue address, the less likely it will come back real. In a via venue situation they are more likely to sign and get rid of the mail hanging around quicker than they would at a standard address. And via venue collecting/addresses seems to be the way the hobby is going.
Thanks again for the comment.
