Cynthia & the city

Earlier this week (my last success) I received David Eigenberg who played "Steve" (Miranda's boyfriend) on "Sex & The City". Today's mail brings "Miranda" herself!

Cynthia Nixon - Sent: 1/10/06 Received: 3/31/06. When I read that Cynthia Nixon was going to go back on Broadway I looked forward to the chance to try her there to get a signed picture for my "Sex & The City" collection. At first no one was getting anything back through the mail from her, but in the last two weeks or so I've started to see successes starting to come back. I had hoped mine would be one of them, and today it was! Cynthia signed the photo and index card I sent her. Cynthia's character "Miranda" wasn't one of my favorites when I first started watching the show but that changed as the series went on. My favorite "Miranda" moment is the man in the sandwich outfit that tells her to "Eat Me". I read that Cynthia is really a blonde (and dyed her hair red for the show) but I don't know if I could picture her with anything but her beautiful red locks.

Eigenberg spotted straight ahead

Some days I just know I'm going to receive a success in the mail. I just feel it. I felt that way this morning and the mail man didn't make me a liar.

David Eigenberg - Sent: 3/23/06 Received: 3/29/06. As I've mentioned before my friend Mark got me hooked on the show "Sex & The City", so I've been working on getting as many cast members as I can. Today I received David Eigenberg who played Miranda's boyfriend Steve Brady on the show. Besides sending me this current head shot photo Steve hand wrote me a note answering just about every question in my letter to him. Nice guy and a quick success (under a week) coming from the new play he's doing in Chicago.

Christmas in March

How can it not feel like Christmas with 4 successes in one day. It's been a while since this has happened. (My record is 6 in one day which has happened twice). I present them to you in the order I opened them:

Laurie Metcalf - Sent: 3/20/06 Received: 3/27/06. I almost missed this one. I was looking online one night and found that Laurie is doing a play in LA right now (which ends this upcoming Saturday), so I quickly ordered a photo and sent it out to her. I loved Laurie as "Jackie" on "Roseanne". She made that show. My favorite scene is in the episode where Jackie's father dies and she has to call (the hard of hearing) "Auntie Barbara" on the phone. Hysterical! Besides signing this "Roseanne" photo for me Laurie also signed an index card with a one week turn around.

Adrianne Curry - Sent: 3/9/06 Received: 3/27/06. Adrianne was a winner in the second season of the reality show "America's Next Top Model". I would say she's more known for reality TV than her modeling career. She has also been on the VH1 reality shows "The Surreal Life" and "My Fair Brady". She is engaged to Christopher Knight (aka Peter Brady from "The Brady Bunch") whom she met on "The Surreal Life". Adrianne hand wrote her web site address on the back of the photo. Good thing she wasn't waving in the photo she sent or I may not have been able to put it on the blog.

Michael Caine - Sent: 3/20/06 received: 3/27/06. Another quick one week turn around. With as much work as Michael Caine has done there has to be a film of his that everyone loves. I would say one of my favorites is a more recent film he did, "Batman Begins". Michael played "Alfred Pennyworth" (the butler) in the film. This is the first time that I remember where the "Alfred" character had been developed so much and made important. I hope they continue that in the sequel films to come. 2006 marks Sir Michael's 50th year of acting. Impressive!

Cindy Williams - Sent: 5/18/05 Received: 3/27/06. You may remember that I recently met Cindy Williams (see my February 25, 2006 posting). One of the decisions in traveling to meet her was that I was never able to get her autograph through the mail (TTM). Well today one (of my two attempts) came back as a success. So I now have another awesome signed photo from this wonderful actress who was so sweet and kind to me. Compare the signature on this photo to the one I got in person. (click here). They look identical don't they? Now who says celebs don't sign TTM!

'X' hits the spot today

While the mail hasn't been pouring in lately, I have been very busy sending out requests. I'm trying to send out extras to make up for February when I was sick and didn't get as many out as I had hoped. I'm very excited about some of the people I've written to (or are about to write to) and getting them back.

Vinnie Jones - Sent: 2/13/06 Received: 3/24/06. How excited am I today? "X-men 3: The Last Stand" hits theatres at the end of May. It might be the #1 movie I'm most excited about seeing this year (with "Superman Returns" a close second). Today's mail brings my first success from "X3", Vinnie Jones who will play "Cain Marko (aka: The Juggernaut"). I sent a "Juggernaut" photo to him (in London) with a silver sharpie (since the photo is pretty dark). He didn't use the sharpie (which is ok) but signed the photo where the autograph would still be visible. "X3" reunited Vinnie with Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry whom he worked on the movie "Swordfish". Vinnie was also in the movie "She's The Man" which I just saw in the theatre this week. A nice addition to my "X-men" collection.

Candy anyone...?

Kudos to my mailman today for delivering my mail (and autograph) before the (expected) major snow storm hits.

Candace Cameron Bure - Sent: 1/3/06 Received: 1/16/06. Today I received back the first request I mailed out in 2006, Candace Cameron-Bure. Candace is best remembered as "DJ" from "Full House" and is the sister to "Growing Pains" star Kirk Cameron. "Full House" is a show very similar for me to "The Dukes Of Hazzard" in terms of when it first aired I remembered it being a very cool and fun. Now rewatching the reruns I have a different take on it. Candace is the third success I've had from a "Full House" cast member.

The passion of my collection

I usually prefer my autographs to be personalized to my name. I like the "just meant for me" feeling the personalization brings. But I understand some people receive so much fan mail that getting anything signed from them is a treat. Both autographs I received today weren't personalized to my name but I was very happy (and surprised) with their arrival.

James Caviezel - Sent: 11/23/05 Received: 3/14/06. At first I thought this was signed with an "auto pen" machine but after studying the photo, researching online and looking at other signed pictures I realize that it is authentic. I'm sure he just signed a stack of photos which they have distributed within the requests received. I know after staring in "Passion Of The Christ" his fan base increase a lot. On Star Archive there are more pending entries for him than through the mail successes, so I feel very lucky to have received a success. A printed card for singer Lorraine Devon Wilke was thrown in with my signed picture of James which I thought was a little odd.

Erica Durance - Sent: 2/7/05 Received: 3/14/06. 400 (yes 400) days ago I sent this request out to Erica via the Canadian set address for "Smallville". Erica is one of the more recent cast regulars on the show playing Chloe's cousin "Lois Lane". After such a long wait I had pretty much given up on this until today when a nice head shot photo arrived postmarked Canada. I like Erica's take on "Lois". It's the first time (I think) that we've ever seen this character portrayed as young as she is in the show. My ultimate goal would be to get a signed photo from everyone who has played Lois Lane. Today's success brings me one step closer to that goal.

Cutting to the 'thicke' of it

After a slow week at the mailbox I looked forward to Saturday's mail arriving. (I think I'm starting to take for granted that I will always get a success on Saturday). The mailman did not disappoint today.

Alan Thicke - Sent: 2/13/06 Received: 3/11/06. Look at this photo. Doesn't Alan Thicke look almost the same as he did when he was playing "Dr. Jason Seaver" on "Growing Pains" 20 years ago? It makes a person wonder, is Alan Thicke the new Dick Clark? Many people don't realize that Alan Thicke is a songwriter and has written many TV theme songs including the original "Wheel Of Fortune" theme, "Joker's Wild" (another game show) and the themes to the sitcoms "The Facts of Life" and "Diff'rent Strokes" (which he not only co-wrote but sang). His son Robin writes as well and has his work recorded by Marc Anthony, Christina Aguilera, Brian McKnight and Pink among others. I haven't seen a lot of successes on Alan so this was a nice surprise.

Deborah Foreman - Sent: 3/1/06 Received: 3/6/06. The movie "Valley Girl" has always been a favorite of mine since growing up. Deborah Foreman played the lead female character ("Julie") opposite Nicolas Cage in the movie. I found Deborah's web site and sent her a very nice e-mail. On Monday I received this reply from her (via e-mail):

"Ryan,

Thank you for your kind letter ... To be honest with you, I am not acting any more so I do not have photos or give out autographs ...

Again, thank you for your interest!!

Share your giggles and your smiles,

Debby Foreman"

I wasn't very surprised by the e-mail. (Deborah was the only person who did not participate in the special features on the "Valley Girl" DVD so that tipped me off that she may be done with "the business" altogether). It was a friendly e-mail and I do appreciate the reply but with that came the end of my hopes to get a signed "Valley Girl" photo. Finding movie stills from this film is not easy but I'm gonan keep an eye open and see if I can start working on more of the cast.

Saturday success

I've noticed a lot of my old 'pending requests' have been coming in lately (which is cool). Today's falls under that category. (670 days).

Alec Baldwin - Sent: 5/3/04 Received: 3/4/06. Remember last Saturday when I received a success from Alec Baldwin? Remember I wrote on my blog that the first time I had written him I never received a response? That first time was in May of 2004 when he was doing a play called "Twentieth Century" in New York and the response came today. He sent me a playbill from his new play "Entertaining Mr. Sloane" and this one is personalized to my name! Even better!
